Our thanks to Sheila Regan (GWS major 2004) and Marisol Rodriguez (GWS major 2006) for visiting Gender and Women's Studies to lead a discussion on advocacy as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sheila is working as a crime victim advocate at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, and volunteers at Rape Victim Advocates as a medical advocate and third level advocate. Marisol was a medical advocate for Neopolitan Lighthouse, a domestic violence agency also located in Chicago. She traveled to Mt. Sinai Hospital and WIC offices to do domestic violence assessments, and provide counseling, emotional support, and referrals for various service. She has recently taken a position as medical advocate victim for Rape Victim Advocates. Sheila and Marisol discussed their jobs—how they got them, the challenges and rewards, and the varied problems of domestic violence and sexual assault. They are, as one participant observed, truly inspiring young women working for social change.
Congratulations to Emily Rae Woods (GWS/IPS major 2003), who graduated from Stanford Law School this past May. She begins a one-year clerkship for The Honorable Harry Pregerson, Ninth Circuit Federal Appellate Judge, in Woodland Hills, CA.
Carol Anne McChrystal (BFA 2004, GWS Minor) earned an MFA from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. She has kindly agreed to let us show some of her artwork on our website.
