Ask for help.

In times of emergency or crisis, always seek assistance. If you are the victim of harassment, abuse, or assault, it is hard to have a good perspective on what is going on. Call one of the services below. They have experience dealing with these issues, and can give you the best advice available. Get information before you decide on your next step. You can always refuse further assistance if it is not right for you. Let whoever you call know you are in trouble. If you do not get the assistance you need, go to another service. You deserve help for your problem.

If you are not sure where to turn for help, contact the Emergency Dean of the University of Illinois at (217) 333-0050, or Champaign County's First Call for Help at (217) 352-6300. They can refer you to the right place for your issue.

Rape Crisis Services

24-Hour Hotline: The crisis hotline is staffed by trained crisis counselors 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached at 355-5203. Callers outside of central Illinois may reach the crisis center closest to them by dialing 800-656-HOPE.

A Woman's Fund

1304 E. Main, Urbana, phone 384-4462. A Woman's Fund provides services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, including a 24-hour hotline, shelter, counseling, advocacy, support groups, information and referrals.

A Woman's Place

505 West Green Street, phone 384-4390.
Assists with situations involving domestic violence, including shelter, advocacy, counseling and support groups.

McKinley Mental Health & the Counseling Center

110 Student Services Building, 610 John Street; call 333-3704 for an appointment. McKinley Mental Health Center and the Counseling Services Center provide counseling to U of I students free of charge. The Counseling Center provides one-on-one counseling to students on a variety of issues. McKinley has the capacity to provide the additional service of medical intervention for mental health issues as necessary. Phone 333-2705 for an appointment.

Champaign Country Mental Health Center

University of Illinois HELP Dean - Harassment and Discrimination

If you are a student and believe you have been the target of harassment or discrimination you are strongly encouraged to seek assistance from the Office of the Dean of Students. E-mail your questions and concerns to HELPdean@uiuc.edu or call our office at 333-0050 for an appointment. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 300 Turner Student Services Building, 610 E. John, Champaign.

University of Illinois Emergency Dean

A unique service of the Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Illinois is the Emergency Dean who can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 333-0050. The Emergency Dean provides information and follow-up services to students and families in an emergency situation. Also, the Emergency Dean acts as a resource to community and University law enforcement agencies, hospitals and crisis centers. 300 Turner Student Services Building, 610 East John Street.

Office of Women's Programs

The Office of Women's Programs provides programs and services addressing the unique needs of women students. Individual counseling is available to women by appointment and referral. The Campus Acquaintance Rape Education (C.A.R.E.) program educates the University community through workshops for men and women students and other efforts to reduce the incidence of acquaintance rapes on campus and to create a campus climate sensitive to the needs of sexual assault survivors.
